Fundraising is critical to Troop 30's success because it provides the majority of the resources by which we can provide the kind of Scouting experience that attracts the boys to the Troop. Troop 30 does only three fundraising activities generally throughout the year. - We raise money for the Troop and the Council through Popcorn sales, which start in September and end in October of each year. This is the primary fundraising that the kids do and we've had some Scouts (OK - it's Ben) who outsell everyone year after year, but many others sell from $300 to $1000 and more worth of popcorn.
- We also sell Christmas cards that have been designed by John Deering. This has been a huge boon to the Troop because these are pure profit thanks to the generosity of the Deering family and to Magna IV Color Imaging of Little Rock. The sales of the Christmas cards have been driven to great heights through the direction of Skip Clemmons and most are sold to corporate clients, although the scouts themselves manage to sell quite a few, especially during the Thanksgiving Season. Christmas Cards are normally being sold from September to November. The Troop gets together to sort and package them into bags, usually one or two days on a weekend.
- A third fundraising venture is a bar-b-que that the troop holds each year, with great help from Mack Hutchinson and his cooking abilities. There is a silent auction of items that have been 'harvested' and donated by friends and businesses. This is a good way of getting parents together who normally may not see the other parents, and having some fun.
